decades and carrying out Leprosy Elimination activities as key partner to National
Leprosy Elimination Programme (NLEP) India. The contribution has made a positive
impact in reducing the prevalence rate in their operational area (served about 15 million

vertical set up of the programme as per NLEP strategy.
Swiss Emmaus India intensified Leprosy related services such as Prevention of
impairments and Disability, Socio Economic Rehabilitation, Health Education Activities
and Training Programme on capacity building for in-service staff etc. under integrated
approach of the programme.
Due to rapid change in the epidemiological factors, the leprosy services in all the states
have been integrated with Government Health Care System. This has necessitated to
appropriate modification of involvement of Swiss Emmaus supported NGO's for
Redefining the Roles and Responsibilities in the context of leprosy elimination and
integration.
In order to sustain the ongoing projects of Swiss Emmaus India, RNTCP TB programme
and support services have been initiated in 6 projects in collaboration with concerned State
Governments.
In view of the above Swiss Emmaus has encouraged the supported NGOs to redesign the
ongoing activities in order to achieve the goal of elimination and to sustain the leprosy
related services.
