Participation
In The Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme
Government of India recognized the need of close collaboration with NGOs in
implementing the RNTCP programme at National, State and District level in India. The
following five schemes were offered by the Government of India (NTP) to NGOs to
participate in the RNTCP programme.

The planned activities to ensure the participation of NGOs as partners in the RNTCP
include :
i.
Inviting representatives of NGOs to serve as members of the coordination
committee at the different levels.
ii. Providing interested NGOs with information and literature on
RNTCP.
iii. Involving NGOs in planning, implementation and evaluation of TB control
programme through various coordination committees of RNTCP
programmes.
iv. Inviting NGOs to visit pilot sites to get a better understanding of RNTCP
and share their knowledge of working with TB patients / providers.
v. Involves NGOs working in the districts to participate in RNTCP
in particular geographical areas.
vi. Involving NGOs to participate in RNTCP training.
Swiss Emmaus India and their supported NGOs have entered under various schemes and
committees of RNTCP in India and expanded its collaboration through its 6 supported
NGOs covering about 2.1 million population and registered 2591 TB new patients during
the year. The average cure rate was maintained about 89.4% which is more than the
targeted cure rate of 85%.
