GLRA - India initially placed District Technical Support Teams during 1999 in the state of
West Bengal and subsequently extended in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and
Lakshadweep, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Rajasthan,
Orissa, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and
Chandigarh.
The main purpose of District Technical Support Team (DTST) and State Technical Support
Team (STST) is to strengthen the process of integration of leprosy services with General
Health Services and thereby support NLEP to achieve national elimination goal. These
support teams are located at the District Head quarters but has to work in either one or
more districts depending upon operational requirement as per the revised criteria of
Government of India.
Each Technical Team consists of one Medical Officer (Epidemiologist), Non Medical
Supervisor and a vehicle (four wheeler) with driver. The DTST Medical Officer will first discuss
his monthly programme in advance with the District Leprosy Officer and plan the PHC
areawise programme in which their technical services are most needed.
