Information, Education and Communication (IEC)

PROGRAMME METHODS AND MATERIALS

The scope and objective of IEC activities have been different at different levels depending on changes and innovations in programme strategy. IEC programme has been accorded top priority in all the GLRA supported NGOs at this point of National fight for the elimination of leprosy and control of TB.

The IEC activities carried by GLRA - India and its supported NGOs both in urban and rural areas adopted suitable educational methods and materials according to the needs of the programme and local situations.

During the IEC campaign approach certain suitable educational medias are being used such as Audio Visual Aids, Graphic Aids, Flip charts, Cartoons, Self explanatory picture cards, Display boards, Film strips, slides, Overhead transparencies, Television, Local news paper, Hand bills, Wall posters, Banners, Wall writings, Megaphone announcement, Drum beats, Group discussions, Street plays, Rally of School children and door to door visits in the campaign areas by involving local community leaders and volunteers which in turn help to bring out more hidden patients and change the negative attitude of certain key individuals / community.

GLRA India also conducts IEC activities in selected districts at the request of concerned State Government by involving Primary Health Care Staff, Local organizations, Panchayat leaders and community volunteers.

During the year 2004, the following selected areas are covered with systematic mass IEC campaigns with close cooperation and coordination of the concerned District Health Authorities.
